vioLit Says: “Play the music you love. Don't try to follow trends or do what you think is popular if it's not something you're into. Your vibe attracts your tribe!”

Stream Set Up

As a musician, audio quality is your top priority. Ensure your streaming software is configured with optimal audio settings and balanced mixer levels. Monitor your stream recordings to verify that the sound is clear, well-balanced, and synchronized with your video. Viewers should be able to easily adjust their listening experience so pay special attention to your volume output.

Your streaming set up will evolve alongside your musical journey. Start with the essentials that can deliver quality sound, then grow your set up over time. Share your goal with your community and consider setting Subscription or Bit goals for new equipment. Create excitement and let your community invest in your growth as an artist.

Twitch DJ Program

The Twitch DJ Program makes it possible for DJs to livestream millions of tracks representing the vast majority of popular music, and benefit from new promotional and discovery opportunities. DJs who enroll in the DJ Program will be able to livestream tracks without risk of takedowns. Anyone can be a DJ if they want to livestream themselves playing recorded music for the enjoyment of their Twitch viewers. This applies to any channel that is using music as a primary focus of their livestream where they are mixing pre-recorded music where they do not have the rights.

DJs opted into the program will not be able to save, or let viewers save VODs, Clips, Highlights, or Uploads to the Twitch channel associated with their account. VODs, Clips, Highlights, and Uploads involve different rights than livestreams.

Music & DJ Streamer Strategies:
Exploring the Music & DJs Category and checking out some other streamers is a great way to find inspiration and make new connections in the music community. While Twitch’s DJ Program allows you to safely play most music without copyright infringement, it's important to take note of the restricted list and avoid playing any songs that are on it.

Interaction Inspiration

Twitch is an interactive experience. Your audience will be chatting with you during your streams, so be sure to read your chat, interact with your community, and give shoutouts. Even if you’re in the midst of a live performance, taking a break once in a while to catch up with chat, respond to questions, and keep the conversation going will keep your viewers engaged. For many of your most dedicated viewers, these breaks are what makes your stream feel personal, unique, and authentic.

Your audience comes to Twitch to watch you showcase what you do best, but what keeps viewers coming back are interactive, community-driven experiences. Consider adding different elements, such as new instruments, sounds, or segments to keep your stream feeling fresh and the fans coming back.
