Content Categories on Twitch

A grid of images showcasing Twitch's most popular categories and some of their creators.

Whether you stream painting, music, cooking, outdoor hikes, or gameplay, we’ve got you covered. The opportunities to create on Twitch are endless, spanning creative arts, real-life adventures, educational content, and entertainment. It’s up to you to decide which category and what you will stream as you let your interests and personality guide the way.

Twitch’s most popular category is Just Chatting, where you can talk, react, and spend time with your community. The next most viewed categories are a variety of popular games. Category popularity on Twitch fluctuates throughout the day, month, and year, so it’s important to choose a category that suits you and your style best.

Choosing a Category

Choose a category that aligns with your stream identity and why viewers choose to watch you. A single show can span more than one category. You may start your stream catching up with chat in Just Chatting before playing a game, or switch games as you go. The category and Tags can be updated as they change throughout your show. Learn more about different categories through your Twitch Analytics on your Creator Dashboard.

Content Classification

You can stream whatever you and your communities are passionate about, within our Community Guidelines . Content classification labels are required when indicating if a stream contains mature themes related to: Mature-rated Games; Sexual Themes; Drugs, Intoxication, or Excessive Tobacco Use; Violent and Graphic Depictions; Significant Profanity or Vulgarity; or Gambling. This also includes content from their co-hosts or invited guests. Content classification labels help viewers make informed choices about the content they watch, and also help streamers attract viewers who are more likely to be a good fit for their community.

Creator Clubs

The Creator Clubs Program is geared around helping streamers find communities around their shared interests. The goal is to help connect like-minded creators in order to deepen their sense of belonging, help them access new, shared audiences, and find new ways to succeed on Twitch, together.

Creator Club applicants must be 18 years old or older, an Affiliate or Partner on Twitch, be in good standing, and actively streamed content relevant to the preferred Club within the last 3 months. Apply here!
