Social Media Strategy

You’ve got your channel all set up and you’re rocking it. But how do you get more eyes on your content? Sharing your content through social media can help with this. It's a great way to reach new audiences and connect with your current one. Think of social media as your channel’s megaphone - it amplifies your voice and extends your reach beyond your Twitch stream.

Social media has value, but it can also become a distraction. It can expand your discoverability, keep your community engaged between streams, and provide multiple touch points for connecting with your community. However, social media can easily sway you off course from your core mission if you pay too much attention to what other broadcasters are doing or engage with negative sentiment. Setting a time limit for your social media apps and prioritizing conversation with your community is the best recommended strategy for creative longevity and avoidance of burnout.

TWITCH TIP:
Social media platforms provide a place to find sponsored content opportunities and offer a great means to network with other creators. We recommend responding to brand announcements that you’re excited about.

Core Social Strategies

Social media trends and platforms are constantly changing. Before sharing content, identify the platforms that most effectively connect you with your target audience.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

  • Does this content represent what people experience on my broadcasts?
  • Is this content able to grab a viewer’s attention?
  • Is this content representative of the brand I want to showcase?

All social media services have different types of content, tones, and audiences. Choose at least one social media service to use as a marketing tool for your streams.

Types of Content to Share

Short Form Video
Utilize Twitch clips to share the greatest moments from your show and excite viewers to tune in next time.

Long Form Video
Use the Twitch Highlight tool to trim and distribute your full gameplay, performances, and more for easy upload on VOD (video on demand) websites.

Photos
Showcase your setup, a game you just picked up, or your incredible outfit of the day. Give them a glimpse into your world they wouldn’t otherwise see!

Thoughts
Continue conversations from stream, engage with fellow broadcasters, and share goals about where you want to go next.

TWITCH TIP:
Remember that being effective on social media requires conversation. Engage with productive comments, share in each other’s wins, and celebrate growth alongside your community.
