Gambling Education Resource

Guidelines

  • Do not share the link to this education portal with others, as this is a beta program that’s available to participants only.
  • If you were assigned a quiz, read the following article before taking it below. You will have 1 attempt to score a 80% or higher in order to pass.

You’re viewing this page because you’ve violated Twitch’s Community Guidelines on Gambling. Content that’s illegal is harmful to our community and makes Twitch less welcoming. As in all online communities, at Twitch, everyone has a role to play to support each other’s wellbeing and the health of their communities. Communication and creativity can’t happen if people don’t feel physically and emotionally safe.

So to help you understand what Twitch does not allow and to prevent you from being suspended again for violating Twitch’s guidelines against gambling, we developed the information and quiz below. You’ll learn what types of gambling are not allowed on this service and why.

As you work your way through this resource, you’ll find a brief FAQ and some examples of violating content, followed by a quiz. If you get at least 80% of the answers correct, we will reduce the length of your suspension.

What gambling content is not allowed on Twitch?

Our Community Guidelines do not allow content that links or provides referral codes for sites that promote slots, roulette, dice games or skins gambling. Further, we do not allow streaming of banned sites such as stake.com, duelbits.com and blaze.com or sharing links to them in chat (for a complete list, see the “Prohibited Gambling Content” section of our Community Guidelines). Our guidelines do allow broadcasting of fantasy sports, sports betting and poker. However, when streaming those, you should mark your stream with the “Gambling” Content Classification Label (see how to apply them in our help article about this).

Why is gambling content harmful?

Gambling can become a form of addiction—a behavioral addiction that can be harmful to some people of any age and require mental health treatment. Signs of this addiction include losing money and going into financial debt, harm to relationships with family and friends (if things get out of control and the gambler tries to hide their activity) and mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.

It’s especially important for streamers to follow these guidelines because of the influence they have in their communities for healthy and unhealthy behavior.

Some misconceptions around gambling on Twitch

1. You can’t play any gambling games on Twitch. FALSE

So long as it is not from a prohibited site, Twitch allows streaming of gambling with the Content Classification Label for Gambling.

2. You know streaming on stake.com violates Twitch’s Community Guidelines but believe it’s OK to stream a poker game with the stake.com logo as an
overlay. FALSE

Twitch does not allow promotion, endorsement or sponsorship of prohibited gambling sites such as stake.com. A full list of prohibited gambling sites can be found in our Community Guidelines.

3. You’re not allowed to discuss gambling sites at all. FALSE

You’re allowed to talk about gambling sites, even prohibited ones, as long as you do not stream a prohibited gambling site, or share direct links or referral codes to sites that contain slots, roulette, or dice games.

Some more examples of content that violates Twitch’s gambling policy:

  • While streaming, telling your viewers the URL of a gambling site that is prohibited by Twitch
  • Sharing a referral code to a slots site in your chat or on your overlay while streaming
  • Using a VPN so you can broadcast playing on a gambling site that’s illegal or geo-blocked in your country
  • A user betting their skin or some loot while watching you broadcast
  • Streaming a free social version of a prohibited gambling site
  • Livestreaming yourself actively participating in sports betting without displaying the “Gambling” Content Classification Label
