Frequently Asked Questions

What is this experimental program?

We launched this program to educate you and other streamers who have violated the Community Guidelines about the impact of your conduct on our broader community. Our hypothesis is that by helping community members understand why our Community Guidelines prohibit the behavior they were suspended for, we can reduce the likelihood that the same harmful behavior will be repeated, ultimately teaching participants about our policies and how they can support a safer, more positive Twitch culture. The program will have two core components: 1) articles that will help you understand why it is important to remain compliant with specific policies from our Community Guidelines and 2) quizzes that will test your comprehension of those policies and articles.

How did you select which policies are covered by this program?

At launch, this program will start by focusing on our Hateful Conduct policy, though we will add more policies as the program develops. Hateful conduct causes clear harm to others, and we believe that reducing instances of hateful conduct can have one of the biggest positive impacts on the safety and inclusivity of our community overall. We also know that different cultures and languages may have different norms when it comes to what crosses the line of hateful conduct. We hope that through this program, we can help clarify the global standard we set for those who may not understand why their actions were harmful.

Who will this program be available to during the pilot?

During the initial experimental stage, this program will be available to Twitch Partners. We are starting with Partners because we recognize how these individuals’ behavior can set a model for others, and their actions can have a disproportionate impact on the community. As we monitor the program’s impact, we will determine factors such as the duration of the program and potential expansion to other policies and groups.

How many attempts will I have to pass an assigned quiz?

You will have one attempt to score 80% or higher on any quiz that you’re assigned. We strongly recommend that you read the Community Guidelines and education article carefully before taking one.

What happens if I pass an assigned quiz?

If you pass a quiz by scoring 80% or higher, you will be eligible for a reduced suspension length. If your suspension is reduced, it will no longer count against your record. However, if you violate the policy again during this pilot, you will not be eligible to take the quiz again, and your prior suspension will be added back to your record. Appeals will not be accepted and you will be required to serve the full suspension, unless we determine that the enforcement in question was issued incorrectly.

Is there a time limit for completing an assigned quiz?

If you’re unable to complete a quiz before your account suspension expires, the suspension will remain on your account. You will not be allowed to take that quiz again, but you will retain access to the Safety Education Portal. If you need to check when your account suspension expires, visit the Appeals portal.

Why was I emailed for feedback on my experience with the program?

This pilot is still in the early stages of development, and as such, we expect to make many changes throughout its duration. In order to learn what did or didn’t work, we plan on reaching out and asking participants to complete a survey. We want to make sure that any educational content we create is clear and effective, so your feedback will be very important to us.
