Similar to TwitchPlaysPokemon, TwitchPlaysSMB was an experimental interactive game of the NES classic titled Super Mario Bros. A robot is designed to translate the chat into inputs for the on-screen game.

Why don't I see my input on screen?

The robot is designed to handle over a hundred inputs per second. The software should be able to eventually pick up your input and display it on-screen. There is a natural delay between your input and on-screen display, so please be patient.

Why does Mario start with a starman every life?

It took Mario only 527 deaths to reach the first checkpoint. However, 6520 deaths later, the first level still could not be beaten. Mario is now given a 10 second starman beginning in each life, as crutches to help him stop praising the chasm.
