Oh hello,

I'm Paladrima, 23 years old from Germany.
I love Zelda, especially Ocarina of Time and the Oracle-games.
At some point I decided I want to try speedrunning and well, here I am today.

Expect to see mainly Oracle of Seasons and Ocarina of Time Speedruns on this channel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you play on? / What controller do you use?

I am playing Ocarina of Time on an Emulator called "Project 64" using either the english or japanese 1.0-rom.
For Oracle of Seasons I am using the Emulator "Visual Boy Advance" and the PAL-version of the game.
For all of these I am using a wired USB XBox360-controller.

You play OoT on a XBox-Controller? How do you have your buttons mapped out?

left analog stick - directions
right analog stick - c-up and L
A+B - A+B
left trigger - c-left / x - c-down / y - c-right
left bumper - Z / right bumper - R / right trigger - start

Why do you use the japanese version of Ocarina of Time?

The text in the japanese version of Ocarina of Time uses less letters to be displayed. Since the textspeed is the exact same like the textspeed used in the english version, it simply results in being a faster version of the game due to shortened cutscenes and conversations.
There are no other differences between the versions.

Wow, Ocarina of Time has so many glitches! Can i find explanations of those somewhere?

You should check out www.zeldaspeedruns.com. Quite a few glitches you'll find there with explanations.
Some of the glitches aren't added yet, so if you absolutely can't find out what the hell I'm doing, feel free to ask. There are usually knowledgeable people in the chat and I'll answer too if I find the time (which usually is the case).

What is the World Record for what you're doing right now?

Feel free to check out www.zeldaspeedruns.com/leaderboards for informations about the current best times in the World.
Most people submit their times at this site, so you should be able to find the World Record times for most common categories there.
Incase I do run something wacky, I'll include the World Record time (if I actually know it) in the title.

What's the timer you're using? Where can I get it?

The timer is called WSplit. You can find a link at www.speedrunslive.com/tools.

What does MST mean?

MST is an abbreviation for "Medallions, Stones, Trials". Goal of this category is to beat Ganon while having done all 3 Child Dungeons and all 5 Adult Temples before that.
Additionally the magic barrier blocking the inner tower in Ganon's Castle has to be dispelled (in other words the 6 Trials have to be beaten).
The usage of the glitch "Reverse Bottle Adventure" (RBA) is banned in this category.

What is this RBA / Reverse Bottle Adventure?

RBA is a memory corruption glitch using a bottle on the B-button which allows to change entries directly in the memory of Ocarina of Time. This can be used to obtain/delete certain items like Songs, Medallions, Bombbags and Quivers (and more).

I'm interested in learning to speedrun Oracle of Seasons! How do I start the best?

At first you should know how the game works out normally (you should know what to do in the dungeons normal route and be able to beat the game that way).
When you feel ready, simply following a recorded run and trying some stuff yourself will help you the most to get started.
You can use the current World Record as something to follow, however it's probably the best idea to not only take that run but also look at runs done by other runners, simply because there might be easier and different strats to find which fit a person that's just starting better.
If you do get stuck or find problems you can't solve yourself, feel free to contact me (preferably through the IRC, you can find me in speedrunslive usually)
I'll try to help you when I have time and I might also have some tips which tricks you probably shouldn't attempt at first (especially if you're following one of my runs).
I'm pretty sure the other OoS-runners will also share their experiences and tips if you ask them nicely :)
