celebrating 500 followers  POSTPONED - new date to be decided |
The Tactical Espionage Marathon is a Metal Gear Solid speedrun marathon celebrating my 500th follower, and featuring most of the games in the series (basically everything I have).
I'm taking donations during the marathon to raise funds to upgrade my system. This will let me put my resolution up to 720p and framerate to 60, and generally do cool stuff. If you want to contribute, you'd be making me a happy bmn. See the ChipIn widget above here.
Because I'm playing through a number of multi-hour games, I will be skipping most of the cutscenes - the marathon would go on for days otherwise :(. If there's a cutscene you really want to see, I'll let it play for a 5 dollar donation.
If you include a name or message up to 16 letters in your ChipIn message, the message on the highest donation at the time will go on Raiden's dog tag in Metal Gear Solid 2. The "runners up" will go on dog tags in future streams :) (This doesn't affect donation targets/battles - you can put this in the same donation as one of those).
Drop by the chat too - there'll be stuff like impromptu polls going on through the day.

Why the Japanese version??
Jp Sons of Liberty has a load of bugfixes over the US version, and doesn't run at 50fps like the almost identical Eu version. It also has a great ringtone when Ninja texts you. I'm happy to play all three regions though.
Why Sons of Liberty and not Substance??
Substance fixed a number of cool glitches, such as an Out Of Bounds elevator clip. While I don't really care from a speedrunning perspective, MGS2 needs all the cool glitches it can get IMO.
What's the world record??
There's no central community I know of, so I couldn't say. Tanker Big Boss is under 10 minutes, Tanker-Plant Big Boss under 1:45. The fastest Tanker Big Boss 100% I know of is my own 17:42.
How many dog tags??
All of them, and it depends on the difficulty (between 24 and 54).
Why do you say you're playing Normal when you're actually playing Hard??
The Japanese are pansies, so their difficulty names are one step higher than they should be. Jp Hard = Eu/US Normal, etc.
What's with the shades??
If you load a completed save, MGS2 keeps track of the completions and gives you sunglasses every 2nd playthrough.

Haven't had one since before Super. In Vanilla I mained Ryu, then Dan, then Ryu again, but since then I've "mained" Random. I can passibly play about 30 characters.

Which games??
Technically speaking, I have every PS2 game (everything from 3rd Style to 16 Empress). My capture card only works with 7th onwards, and my HDTV means that practically speaking I can only play 12 (Happy Sky) onwards.
You play one-handed??
I only really play IIDX to have fun - not to compete - so I play whichever style I feel like at the time. That includes 1-hand, 2-hand, Doubles, and challenges like All-Scratch and Hidden+/Sudden+.

About the Stream
You're taking donations? Really?? :|
Recently I've been wanting to do 720p and/or 60fps streams, and generally improve the stream quality, to make the stream look great for my viewers and also make streaming easier for myself. I'm not usually the type to ask for money, but after splashing out on improving my Internet connection - which has really helped - I don't have anything left to upgrade my system.
So I've now got a ChipIn widget just under the stream. If you like my stream and want to see it get better, then I hope you'll consider sending me something. Once Paypal's taken their cut, everything will go directly towards upgrading my stream setup.
Then again, if you think the stream looks great as it is, are broke yourself, or just don't care, then that's cool. The only thing that really matters to me when I stream is having a chat full of people I can talk to - put the word out about the stream and help me get more people in the chat, and that's just as valuable as a donation to me. :)
I'm not going to hold the stream to ransom or anything, it's totally optional, but I am open to taking requests and challenges or things like custom filenames, so talk to me if you have something in mind.
What's your stream setup??
Computer: AMD Phenom II X3 710 o.c. to 3GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM at 1333MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4850.
Capture: Blackmagic Intensity Pro connected to PS2 and Wii (both via YPbPr) and Xbox 360 (via HDMI). Super-old generic TV card connected to PSX (via S-Video).
Streaming: AmarecTV capture fed into XSplit. Resolutions between 320x240 and 960x540, framerate between 20 and 30, bitrate up to 1.5Mbit/s.
Chat rules??
My chat in general is easy-going and light-hearted. Almost nothing will get you banned short of blatant advertising, and I have a chat bot which takes care of that, trust me.
That said, we do occasionally give people timeouts, and bans in extreme cases. The sort of stuff I don't like: Overuse of Twitch emoticons or Internet memes; Chat-breaking characters; Demands; Bashing of the current game; Outright trolling; "You should play CoD/Skyrim etc instead"; "Glitches are cheating".
