What is a clan war?

Clan Wars are 5v5 or 6v6 matches between two clans. I prefer to call them 'pick-up matches' on my stream because it's more in line with what they're known as in other games, but they're basically the same thing. Clan Wars are held over 3 GPs of 4 races each, and whichever clan gets the most points, wins. There are some penalties that are occasionally enforced for picking one track multiple times, or going backwards to hit the other team.

Why is everyone Funky Kong?

Funky Kong is a heavyweight character; the best vehicle in the game is the heavyweight bike, the Bowser Bike. Funky Kong gets a small speed bonus and no handling bonuses, so he drives and charges mini-turbos faster than any other heavyweight character. You might also see Daisy on the Mach Bike, which is the second-best vehicle in the game on most tracks for similar reasons.

Why are you stopping/going backwards?

Mario Kart Wii is more about item management than it is about speed, and you get better items when you're in low positions; often, it's worth it to slow down for a second or two in order to get an item that will save you that much time and a lot more later on. Furthermore, lightning (which we call the 'shock', just because someone in 2008 decided it'd be a good idea) is an extremely powerful item that slows down everyone in the room except those who are using 'dodge items', i.e. stars, mega mushrooms, and bullet bills, so it's almost always worth it to sacrifice a good position in order to obtain it, even if only to deny the other team of its use.

Who are the other voices?

We use Skype to communicate during races, and those are my teammates. Sometimes we play without it, and when we do, I usually do commentary.

Why are you taking the game so seriously?

MKW is kind of like SSBM in that it's a party game that happens to have quite some depth to it (though MKW's depth is strategic, and SSBM's is mechanic), so as a result it's a lot of fun to play competitively, and a lot of people are very good at it. My clan, Imperious, is one of the best in the world right now, so we take the game seriously because that's how we enjoy the game.
